Passy is the head of Aidprofen (Actions et initiatives de développement pour la protection de la femme et de l'enfant), an NGO that stands up for women's rights and fights against sexual violence. In 2011, Passy Mubalama founded Aidprofen in response to the poor living conditions in the Mungunga camp for displaced people in North Kivu (Congo). In this way, Passy hoped to improve the situation of women and children in the camp. Aidprofen's intervention zone quickly expanded and the organisation evolved into the broader domain of women's rights and participation in the political process for women and young people.
With her organisation, Passy encourages the political engagement of young people and women so that they become more militant and defend themselves and their rights.
Growing up in a conflict area, I have seen all the misery. This has given me the strength to do something myself and want to bring change to my community.”
Over the years, Aidprofen has developed into an organisation that defends human rights, fights against sexual and gender-related violence, and contributes to overall peace and democracy in Congo. With Aidprofen, Passy mainly organises awareness-raising actions in which volunteers enter into dialogue with local communities about their daily problems and possible solutions. During 'Café Citoyen', they also invite representatives of the judiciary, the police and the army.
Local youth and women engage in debate with these experts on their concrete concerns and realities. They then provide information directly to each other and can ask critical questions about certain actions or interventions."
Passy has received national and international recognition for her work in support of women's rights. You can hear her at various international conferences where she talks about her work, her vision and Aidprofen.
