Economic equality
The current economic system perpetuates inequality. 11.11.11 stands up for a fair, economic and sustainable model that includes everyone.
THE PROFIT OF A FEW GOES AT THE EXPENSE OF HUMANITY AND NATURE
Inequality divides the world. And the current economic system perpetuates this structural inequality. The global economy is in the hands of a few, with their profits coming at the expense of people and nature. In the long supply chains from low- to high-income countries, labor and human rights, climate and the environment are often a piece of paper. International trade agreements based on starvation wages and exploitation push people further into poverty. And the super-rich and multinationals evade taxes while the shopping cart for ordinary citizens worldwide becomes more expensive. Meanwhile, debts in low-income countries are piling up.
This has to change! Together we stand up for a fair, economic model that includes everyone and that stays within the limits of the planet.
What does 11.11.11?
Together with you, we will tackle economic inequality worldwide. There is an urgent need for an economic model in which people and nature count. We believe that sustainable and fair trade, fair taxation and tackling the debt crisis are the keys to sustainable change.
To achieve economic equality:
- Do we put pressure on policy makers?
- We work together as equals with our members and international partners
- Together with you, thousands of volunteers and coalitions, we will take local action and campaign
What solutions are we pushing for?
- Fight against tax avoidance and improve tax rules so that there are more resources to invest in health care, education, social protection or climate policy
- An increase in the international minimum tax rate for multinationals from 15% to 25% to counter the tax race to the bottom
- A global tax body within the UN to avoid international tax rules being determined mainly by rich countries
- An internationally fair debt restructuring system so that low-income countries that are stuck with debt payments can restructure and relieve them
- A sustainable trade policy with more transparency and consultation and more attention to the needs of low-income countries
- A democratic public space, where parliaments have a greater say in international policy and not only companies but also trade unions, NGOs and other civil society organisations are heard
- Involvement of local communities
