In the Philippines, our partners stand up every day for more democracy, climate and social-economic justice. 11.11.11 supports these partners in their fight for a policy that respects both nature and local people. From our Asia office in Manila, we work with all kinds of Philippine organizations that have strong ties with local groups. In this way, these local communities get a voice in national forums and national lobbying is based on stories from the ground.

Human rights and democracy

In the Philippines, democracy and critical voices are all too often under pressure. Women's rights are also a guarantee on paper, but there is a big gap with reality.

Climate

As an archipelago, the Philippines is highly vulnerable to the effects of the climate crisis. Mining also threatens the living environment of local communities.

In the Philippines, wealth and opportunities are not fairly distributed. There is no fair tax system and too many people lead an uncertain existence in the informal sector.

On paper, the Philippines seems to be a democratic constitutional state with all the necessary rules to protect its citizens, but unfortunately this is not the case. Anyone who stands up for human rights and raises a critical voice risks being arrested, or worse. Women's rights are also a guarantee on paper, but there remains a large gap with reality.

11.11.11 and local partners take action for human rights, gender equality and guaranteeing democracy.

As an archipelago, the Philippines is extremely vulnerable to the exploitation of natural resources and the climate crisis. Therefore, both international climate financing and adjusting our own policies are a necessity. Together with local organizations, we advocate, among other things, for investments in clean energy and stricter regulation of the mining sector to protect people and nature.

In the Philippines, wealth and opportunities and rights to education or health care, for example, are not fairly distributed. Too many people remain stuck in the informal sector. Together with our partners, we are committed to a fair fiscal policy and a better redistribution of resources as building blocks for a fair society.
