International solidarity
11.11.11 is committed to greater international solidarity to guarantee the right to education, health care, food and more basic rights for all.
GLOBAL CHALLENGES DO NOT STOP AT OUR BORDERS. THEY ARE ASKING FOR MORE SOLIDARITY, NOT LESS.
Unequal power relations in the world are the reason that not everyone enjoys the same rights and, therefore, does not have the same opportunities. Yet we know that everyone benefits when we ensure that rights and opportunities are realized for all. When the voices of vulnerable groups—such as women, people fleeing conflict, and those most affected by climate change—can influence policy. In short: when there is more international solidarity.
What does 11.11.11?
Together with you we strive to 11.11.11 for international solidarity and cooperation.
To achieve this:
- Do we put pressure on policy makers?
- We work together with international partners on an equal footing
- Together with you and thousands of volunteers, we will take local action and campaign
What solutions are we pushing for?
- A Belgian, European and international policy based on solidarity in the areas of trade, climate, migration, raw materials and taxation that contributes to the fight against poverty and inequality.
- Public investment in international solidarity. Belgium must therefore, as promised, spend 0,7% of its gross national income (GNI) on official development cooperation (ODA).
- Using ODA to tackle poverty and inequality, ensuring that everyone has access to basic rights such as health care, education, food, decent work and social protection. And people can also claim those rights.
- The recognition of a strong civil society, at home and abroad.
- Protection measures for human rights defenders.
- A well-functioning system to restructure unsustainable debts of low-income countries so that they can invest their money in, for example, health care or climate policy.
