Job description
Parents for Inclusion is a volunteer organization of, for and by parents of children with special needs, regardless of the degree of their disability.
The organization aims to support the right to an inclusive life by empowering parents and supporting them in situations where they experience difficulties. It does this by providing parents with accessible information, coaching them in preparation for conversations, and/or mediating where necessary. It also focuses on raising awareness and collaborating with other organizations.
The Support Center for Inclusion is the service provided by Parents for Inclusion. Together with parents of children with disabilities, volunteers, the steering committee, and working groups, our eight support center staff members work daily to promote greater inclusion, connecting them with their communities. The Board of Directors of Parents for Inclusion actively manages the daily operations.
To strengthen the work of our association and our Support Center for Inclusion, we are looking for an additional team member.
Your assignment:
- You take parental support by responding quickly and accessibly to questions about inclusion. Support is available by phone, online, email, or in person.
- Je informs parents by using clear, accessible language and making information usable.
- You ensure that parents can support each other Meet and each other strengthen.
- Je takes inventory, together with your colleagues, problems and inspiring practices within inclusive trajectories.
- You monitor policy developments that have an impact on inclusion / inclusive living and take action accordingly policy work for up.
- You help performance obligations to shape obtained subsidies and develop concrete actions.
- You have the belief and the skills to put inclusion into practice and equal opportunities to realize for children, young people and their families.
- You have knowledge of and experience with reasonable adjustments, and can translate this into concrete solutions in education, leisure, housing and work.
- Je increases with the visibility Parents for Inclusion vzw and its service provider, Steunpunt voor Inclusie (Support Center for Inclusion). You'll be an ambassador, so more parents and their families can find their way to the organization.
Desired profile
Knowledge, experience and job-related competencies
- You have at least a bachelor's degree in Orthopedagogy, or another professional/academic degree relevant to the position (e.g., social work, psychology, teacher training, etc.). Equivalent experience is also considered.
- You communicate fluently and friendly in Dutch.
- You can work systematically and independently and respect deadlines.
- You have the necessary conversation and listening skills to talk with young people, parents and their network about the positive and negative aspects of inclusive education, leisure time, housing and work.
- You use positive and connecting communication, which you can use to connect different perspectives.
- You can provide empowering support to parents and you can respectfully introduce and safeguard the parental perspective during consultations.
- You have a category B driving license, you have access to a car when necessary and you can easily move around Flanders and Brussels.
