Psychosocial support worker for well-being questions at school

Job description

The reception team is looking for a psychosocial support worker (M/F/X) for the outreach assignment Well-being questions at school

Fixed-term contract until August 2026 (80%)

Who are we?

The Centrum Algemeen Welzijnswerk in Brussels is a dynamic, versatile and caring welfare organisation in the metropolitan, multilingual and diverse context of Brussels. The aim of CAW Brussels is to sustainably strengthen the welfare of people. In consultation with our client, we offer the most appropriate assistance and services. We focus on everyone and in particular on people whose welfare or social rights are threatened or have been reduced. We identify social needs and take initiatives to address and prevent these as early as possible.

The team reception organizes an accessible and high-quality reception offer for adults where every Brussels resident, and especially the most vulnerable groups, can go with any question.

We are looking for reinforcement for a outreach project to families with children in Dutch-language primary education with a well-being question.

What do we expect?

  • You'll work in outreach to (potential) clients, providing information and advice. You're the first point of contact, and your job is to pinpoint the client's needs, while also considering the underlying issue and the client's network or context.
  • Once you have a clear understanding of the client's needs, you develop a support plan and inform and advise your client. You provide direct psychosocial support if needed, after which you initiate specific support (short-term) or refer clients to internal and external (collaborative) partners, as well as financial support.
  • To further facilitate access to our services, this project was launched, where caregivers from the Reception team offer on-call services at various schools. You will help provide these on-call services.
  • As a care provider, it's important to have a good understanding of the social map and the Brussels network to be able to make appropriate referrals. Maintaining and expanding networks is therefore also part of your role.

Desired profile

Who are we looking for?

  • You have a broad perspective on caregiving. Difficulties in various areas of life don't intimidate you, and you enjoy working holistically with your client and their network. You're open to all questions and issues, and potential crisis situations don't intimidate you. You enjoy challenges and variety. You enjoy initiating a support process and working with your client to find the most appropriate support, ensuring they are referred accordingly.
  • You can communicate clearly, brightly but tactfully and have an open and respectful attitude towards clients and colleagues. In addition, you can also work inspiringly, both internally and externally.
  • You are willing to learn, open to feedback and not afraid to try new things. You take initiative and can work independently.
  • If you have some initial experience in individual and family support work – whether or not in the Brussels context – this is a plus, but the right attitude and motivation are crucial for us.
  • Language skills:
    • Thorough knowledge of Dutch (speaking, understanding, reading and writing).
    • Good knowledge of French (speaking and understanding). We also offer French lessons during working hours, so don't let that stop you from applying.
    • Other languages, including English, are definitely a plus!
  • You have a good knowledge of the Office package and digital programs or you can quickly find your way around them.
  • You preferably have a bachelor's degree in humanities.
  • You can submit a blank certificate of good conduct (model 2).

What do we offer?

  • An exciting and varied job in which you can make a difference and have an impact on the Brussels welfare sector.
  • A lot of autonomy in a dynamic organization that offers growth opportunities and space to develop talent.
  • Salary according to scale B1C of PC 319.01 (you can consult this on the website of our federation SOM). We certainly take relevant experience into account, also in other sectors.
  • You're entitled to meal vouchers for each day worked. You're also entitled to additional vacation days, which increase with your age. Commuting by public transport is fully reimbursed, or we provide a bicycle allowance if you commute by bike.
  • You will receive a part-time contract (80% or 30,4 hours per week) for a fixed term until 31 August 2026.
  • Area of operation: Brussels-Capital Region
