Air Quality Project Manager

Job description

BRAL, together with residents and partner organizations, advocates for the right to healthy air in the Brussels region. In the context of Breathe Brussels with the support of Clean Air Fund BRAL is hiring a project manager who will be responsible for supporting and further developing the "air community" in Brussels. The project will run until December 2026 (with the possibility of extension). We are looking for someone who full-time can commit to community-building work on the theme of air quality and takes the project in the lead. 

The project leader supports existing partners in sharing experiences and establishing new collaborations. They expand the network, focusing on organizations in other areas (health, youth, seniors, etc.), and involve new communities and community organizers in Brussels' working-class neighborhoods. They also further develop ExpAIR's ambassador network.  

In addition, the project aims to help build renewed and broadened public support for a stronger air policy in the Brussels-Capital Region. By providing information and raising awareness about the importance of clean air, the project addresses attitudes, beliefs, opinions, and narratives about air quality.   

In this role, you'll work alongside ExpAIR, a project support employee, who is responsible for measuring air quality within the same project. Together, you'll develop BRAL's vision, positions, and actions regarding air quality in Brussels. 

 

Taken

  • You regularly bring existing partners together to share experiences and enter into new collaborations.
  • You inform, support and mobilize existing residents' groups and partner organizations.
  • You proactively contact relevant organizations to involve them in the network.
  • You organize workshops to involve new resident groups in the working-class neighborhoods of Brussels.
  • You will work with partner organizations to develop a strategy to renew and broaden public support for a strengthened air policy.
  • You are responsible for developing a communication and awareness campaign.
  • You engage in proactive, assertive and constructive discussions with the Brussels authorities (local and regional).
  • You develop communication around the results of the secondary measurement network and air quality in general (newsletter, flyers, social media, videos, etc.) in collaboration with your colleagues and partner organizations.
  • You develop popular content that the expair ambassadors and other partners can easily distribute further.
  • To promote, deepen, and develop BRAL's vision, positions, and actions regarding air quality in Brussels.

Desired profile

  • A good knowledge of Dutch and French. Fluency in English is an important assets.
  • You have a feel for the Brussels air quality debate, and are motivated to work together towards a strengthened 'healthy air policy'.
  • You have knowledge of community-building work, through your education, voluntary commitment or professional experience.
  • You enjoy working together with other people and you are a born networker, and are always looking for new partnerships.
  • You have strong communication skills and are easy to get along with.
  • You are curious and open to the experiences and practices of Brussels residents in all their diversity.
  • You pay attention to the positions of partners and like to look for a shared vision without sacrificing strength.
  • You can link concrete practices on the ground to policy measures, and vice versa.
  • You take initiative, you think strategically and can work well in a team.
  • Experience and training are useful, but we attach equal importance to drive and motivation.
  • You are willing to work outside regular office hours when the work requires it. After all, evening and weekend work will often be required to collaborate with volunteers.
  • In Brussels you feel like a fish in water. 

Our offer

  • A fixed-term contract (full-time, 80% negotiable), until December 31, 2026.
