Damien Foundation, a Belgian medical non-profit organization active in 13 countries across Africa, Asia, and Latin America, as well as in a project in Belgium, strives to help people suffering from leprosy, tuberculosis, leishmaniasis, and other skin-related neglected tropical diseases. These diseases mostly affect vulnerable communities.
To advance public health, Damien Foundation aims to offer vital medical care based on an integrative approach that places human dignity at the core of its activities.
The Medical Officer provides technical assistance and strategic support to National Programmes, National Damien Foundation staff and collaborate with research and public health institutions for the implementation of TB programmes. This role is key in capacity building for medical professionals and ensuring adherence to international medical standards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Feld Interventions & Technical Support
Provide direct technical assistance to National Programmes and National Damien Foundation staff in implementing TB projects.
Supervise and support medical activities during regular field missions.
Train and strengthen the capacities of healthcare professionals in TB management.
Communicate complex medical concepts in a clear and accessible manner.
Strategy & Stakeholder Relations
Develop innovative approaches to optimize TB interventions.
Negotiate and collaborate with National Institutions and donors (Ministries of Health, technical and financial partners, NGOs).
Ensure compliance with international medical standards and oversee their application in the field.
Represent the organization to academic institutions and technical partners.
Monitoring, Evaluation & Documentation
Supervise and analyze TB projects results to provide recommendations.
Contribute to the development of protocols, reports, and scientific publications.
Gewenst profiel
MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS
Medical Doctor with specialization in Infectious Diseases or Internal Medicine, or Public Health.
10 years of field experience in Tropical Diseases.
10 years of experience working on TB.
English (C1) and either French or Spanish (C1) are mandatory. The knowledge of the 3 languages is a plus.
At least 10 scientific publications in Q1 journals on TB, leprosy, or leishmaniasis.
Availability for at least 4 international field missions per year (7-14 days each).
ASSETS
PhD in Tropical Diseases or related field.
Experience in clinical research and medical trials.
