Volunteers for Empowerment Project for Domestic Workers & Au Pairs (Brussels, Antwerp & Liège)

FAIRWORK Belgium is a Belgian non-profit organisation dedicated to enforce the labour rights of workers without or with a precarious residence in Belgium. In 2010 we created an empowerment project for migrant domestic workers & au pairs. Although our project has had a national scope, most of the activities have been carried out in Brussels. As of 2023, our project has expanded to Antwerp and Liège in order to reinforce our presence in those cities.
In the framework of this expansion we are looking for new enthusiastic candidates to join our team of volunteers
As a volunteer you will help us with the practical aspects of our project and you will support the socio-cultural animation provided to a group of migrant domestic workers and au pairs.
The activities of our project are aimed to two different groups:
- A group of migrant domestic workers mainly from Latin-America and the Philippines
- A group of au pairs from all around the world (more than 20 nationalities, EU and not-EU citizens)
These activities take place on Sundays alternately in Brussels, Antwerp and Liège and comprise the following:
- “Café FAIRWORK”: A get-together in one of our regular meeting places in any of the 3 above-mentioned cities for a lovely group of domestic workers and au pairs. During our Café FAIRWORK we share something to eat and to drink in a safe atmosphere of solidarity and friendship
- Infosessions about the labour rights of domestic workers and au pairs
- Workshops
- Socio-cultural activities (visits to museums, guided walking tours in different cities in Belgium, etc)
Would you like to join a lovely group of courageous and strong domestic workers and au pairs (most of them women) in a multicultural & friendly atmosphere? Would you like to contribute to improve their living conditions? Then this initiative is for you!
You will preferably start in September 2024, but later dates are also possible. We are constantly looking for new volunteers
Gewenst profiel
- You have an affinity for people with a migration background
- You are willing to work on Sundays
- You communicate easily with people from other cultures
- You live preferably either in Brussels, Antwerp or Liège (or close by to any of those cities)
- You speak fluent both English and Spanish
- For our activities in Antwerp the knowledge of Dutch is not necessary
- For our activities in Brussels, the knowledge of Dutch or French is not necessary.
- For the activities in Liège the knowledge of French is necessary.
- You will help us to create a friendly atmosphere for all participants of our project (including you, of course!)
- If you are not a Belgian citizen, you must be holder of a Belgian residence card (Both EU and Not-EU citizens)

- We offer you an insurance and although we cannot offer a compensation, we will pay for all the expenses you incur to participate in our project (public transportation costs, entrance fees to museums and exhibitions we visit, the cost of guided tours, etc.).
