Omschrijving van de vacature

More than 500 staff members at the Institute of Tropical Medicine (ITM) contribute every day to improving the health of millions of people worldwide. Our researchers conduct more than 100 scientific projects in the fields of tropical medicine and international health. Our teaching staff welcomes more than 500 professionals from around the world each academic year to attend our highly regarded medical courses. Tens of thousands of travel and STI consultations take place in our clinic each year, and our internationally recognized reference laboratories examine many hundreds of thousands of samples.

There is only one way we can accomplish these very diverse tasks: thanks to a great passion for our mission.

The Research Office coordinates, supports and promotes the research activities of the ITM. The office helps ITM researchers in seeking research funds, strengthening partnerships and valorising research. Within the Research Office, Health Innovations for All (HI4A) was recently initiated to promote societal and technological impact. HI4A’s objective is to transform research and scientific breakthroughs into inclusive health innovations that are accessible, affordable, relevant, and scalable, thereby advancing global health equity. HI4A aims to fill a crucial gap in the current innovation landscape—valorising research results that offer substantial societal benefits but might not align with traditional economic return on investment models.

To strengthen HI4A we would like to recruit an innovation developer. As Innovation Developer you will co-create together with the research teams  innovation pathways for selected research outputs. You will manage ITM’s innovation portfolio, including funding instruments and external partnerships. You will oversee the intellectual asset (IA) strategies, sustainable technology transfer, and training in innovation management, ensuring that ITM's assets are accessible and effectively licensed.

Assignment

  • You will screen ITM’s research portfolio and advice on the selection, development & implementation of HI4A innovation pathways;
    • You will be participating in research portfolio road mapping exercises and research & development concept phases;
    • You will manage ITM’s HI4A funding instruments (bridge funding/proof of concept, moonshot funding);
    • You will map and secure additional impact funding & support external funding applications;
    • You will develop IA strategies balancing protection and accessibility and manage IA with appropriate business partners;
    • You will support sustainable tech transfer;
    • You will train and support researchers in innovation management and mentor them through the innovation pathway;
    • You will build and maintain a network of relevant stakeholders and establish strategic partnerships and collaborations within the HI4A ecosystem;
    • You keep your finger on the pulse of (inter)national developments, trends and best practices related to your assignment and incorporate these into HI4A policies where applicable.
