WHAT IS THE UMBRELLA REFUGEE COMMITTEE?
The Umbrella Refugee Committee is a coalition of 9 refugee-run committees in Brussels, which represent communities from Afghanistan, Syria, Iraq, Burundi, Eritrea, Somalia and Ukraine, as well as the Rainbow and Women’s Refugee Committees.
As an organisation, the Umbrella RC works with policymakers to make it easier for refugees to find their way in Belgium, and provides different services aimed at kickstarting that process.
WHAT WOULD BE YOUR ROLE?
The Umbrella Refugee Committee is hiring its first employee, to take on the following coordination tasks:
- you maintain an overview of the URC’s activities and projects (which include homelessness patrols, housing and employment workshops, and sports evens) to make sure that the organization plans ahead;
- by providing structure and direction to a diverse group of volunteers, you make sure the URC’s projects move forward;
- together with the URC’s thematic teams, you develop new ideas and write funding applications;
- you work closely with the board of the URC, and refugee leaders across the URC’s member organizations;
- when a problem needs solving, you help think through solutions and mediate where needed.
Gewenst profiel
- you can work independently ;
- you have the experience or skills to manage people in a diverse NGO, and communicate easily and diplomatically;
- you have the experience or skills to manage projects and know how to write funding applications;
- you have a working level of English and French;
- you have a higher education degree in social sciences, migration, management, law, or another relevant field.
