Climate injustice rages on. We can only stop it together!

The greatest impact of climate change primarily affect the people and countries least responsible for it, who have few resources to do anything about it. In Bangladesh, fishing villages are disappearing in the rising sea. In Zambia, drought leads to extreme famine. In Brazil, entire communities are displaced by forest fires. That climate injustice is a consequence of the unfair system. We must address it at its roots. The only right answer to climate change is systemic change. Together we tackle climate injustice. While we still can.

Climate injustice rages on. In Pakistan, millions are fleeing heavy flooding. In Zambia, drought is leading to extreme famine. And in Brazil, entire communities and ecosystems are being destroyed by forest fires. But even closer to us, we are increasingly seeing the effects of climate change. Just think of the alarming water shortage caused by the drought this summer or the dramatic impact on many after last year's floods in Wallonia.

So we all gain if we address this climate crisis. Only, we should never forget that the biggest impacts, such as extreme weather and famine, mostly affect people who are least responsible for them. The average CO2 emissions of a Pakistani, for example, is only a tenth of what an average Belgian emits. This is climate injustice in practice.

Together with activists and from 11.11.11, I am therefore kicking off our campaign at the big climate march in Brussels. Which is about climate justice. About the right to a safe and healthy planet, for everyone. Because no, it's not too late. Together, we can still turn the tide. The only right answer to climate change and the energy crisis is international cooperation and solidarity. It is hopeful to see how climate activists and organizations are taking to the streets. And how courageous politicians, committed entrepreneurs and citizens are already taking responsibility and coming up with solutions. But only together can we tackle climate injustice.

Let's wake up governments and companies to put fair climate policies high on the agenda. That way, we can also work together to ensure that everyone in the world can overcome climate challenges.

Our stunt on national television in belgium

For once, not the usual weather forecaster, but Peggy, a weather forecaster from Zambia who predicted good weather. Because finally: rain is coming.

A striking message with which we kicked off our campaign.
