11.11.11 is looking for an Advocacy Officer for the “FORCE4Refugees” project to lead on advocacy and research-related activities and project components, with direct supervision and guidance from the Middle East Expert at 11.11.11.
11.11.11 is a non-profit organization that, together with 20,000 volunteers in Belgium and hundreds of activists worldwide, fights for international solidarity in four different regions across the globe. In the MENA region, we work together with local Refugee-Led Organisations (RLOs), Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and human rights organisations in Syria, Lebanon, Türkiye and Palestine, through various programs, projects and coalitions.
11.11.11 is implementing the Fostering Ownership of Resources, Capacity and Enablement for Refugees project (FORCE4Refgees) in Türkiye with funding from the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The project works with in-country partners following three intervention strategies: (1) Tailored Capacity Strengthening, (2) Direct Funding, (3) Meaningful Participation. The Advocacy Officer will work in close collaboration with the FORCE4Refugees Project manager, Middle East Expert and other project team members from our in-country partners.
- Support partner organisations in identifying their own advocacy capacity development needs. When necessary, help them seek out third-party support;
- Organize and facilitate brainstorming workshops with partner organisations to identify priority areas relevant for advocacy and policy activities;
- Assist in drafting the overall advocacy strategy for the project outlining clear objectives, target activities, stakeholders, deliverables and indicators;
- Assist the partner organisations in developing their own advocacy strategies and action plans appropriate to the context and centring on rights of refugees and migrants in Türkiye;
- Support the planning, coordination, and implementation of advocacy campaigns/tours, with a strong focus on Geneva.
- Monitor and report to project team on context developments and prepare relevant policy messaging accordingly.
- Collaborate with partner organisations to draft relevant policy briefs, reports, presentations and other written outputs in accordance with the project objectives;
- Assist in organizing events, workshops, and meetings with stakeholders, including policymakers and partner organizations.
Gewenst profiel
- You have 1-2 years of experience in advocacy, public policy, or a related field.
- Experience working on the MENA region in general and on the Syria refugee crisis in particular is preferred.
- You have experience in drafting high-quality policy briefs and relevant written outputs for advocacy purposes .
- You have experience working with diverse actors and partnerships.
- You have knowledge on human rights and/or displacement.
- You are an excellent and determined team player.
- You have the ability to build and maintain effective communication with external contacts.
- You have strong written and verbal communication skills in English. Proficiency in Arabic is desirable.
- You have the knowledge of technology and social media and its potential for advocacy.
- You are willing and able to travel regularly, including to Türkiye and Switzerland (Geneva).
- You have a work permit to work in Brussels.
