The vision behind ‘Sister Places for Earth’
A partnership with PMCJ, Alyansa Tigil Mina Youth Network, Aksyon Verde, Walhi, MOCICC and 11.11.11, from Philippines, Indonesia, Perù and Belgium respectively, our aim was to raise awareness about climate justice, environmental conservation and sustainability, while amplifying our voices on ‘Earth Day’. Emerging from this vision, ‘Sister Places’ is a powerful artistic expression that connected together a diverse group of young participants.
The power of "Artivism"
Youth from Belgium, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Perú expressed their urgency for climate justice through ‘artivism’. Bound together by a shared vision, they transformed public benches, walls, and other key spots in their cities with impactful artwork that conveyed messages of climate justice, collective impact, and environmental conservation.
Creativity became a means to share an important statement with the world: ‘’We need to protect the Earth, while also safeguarding the rights of the most vulnerable people and sharing the burdens and benefits of climate change as well as its resolution equitably and fairly!’’
The Impact of Sisterhood
The sisterhood element is what makes this initiative impactful and unique. Knowing that others are continuing the same conversation, adding different shades and perspectives from miles away inevitably empowers each participant, encouraging more collective actions in the future.
Sharing Experiences to Strengthen the Bond
The second stage of the action focused on sharing. Participants exchanged experiences through a WhatsApp group, giving space to reflection and mutual support.
This interconnectedness strengthened bonds, fostering solidarity and a shared purpose.
Ultimately, these connections empower us to continue our fight for environmental justice. United in our commitment, we strive to protect our planet and ensure a sustainable future for all!
