About the COP28

The COP28, the 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference, is being held in Dubai from 30 November to 12 December.

If we are to achieve the goals set by the Paris Agreement, we need to move away from fossil fuels towards renewable, low-carbon and preferably sustainable energies. A fundamental energy transition is therefore necessary. Yet the 2023 climate conference is being organised by an oil-rich monarchy.

Can the United Nations' goal of accelerating the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions be compatible with the intentions of the host country?
And in Belgium, where do we stand in the energy transition?

About our Climate Talk

During the climate talk we will take stock of the commitments made at COP28, while looking in greater depth at the relationship with energy and the need to move away from fossil fuels to preserve our living conditions on the planet.

Speakers:

  • Jean-Pascal van Ypersele (Professor (em.) of climatology at UCLouvain and former IPCC Vice-Chair)
  • Tinne Van der Straeten (Federal Minister for Energy)
  • Anuna De Wever (Climate Action Network) and representatives of civil society

This meeting will be moderated by Paul Germain (journalist and editor-in-chief, TV5 Monde).
