Being great at doing good

What if we could only do good things? And what if we did those good things in the best possible way?

The movement around effective altruism is a plea to 'become better at doing good'. More than that, it is a call to give and to continue giving to profit organisations.

Belgian NGOs have invested a lot in following up and measuring their results through monitoring and evaluations. And yet, not everything that counts, can be counted (and not everything that can be counted, counts).

How does the ambition of effective altruism clash with results that are difficult to measure (behavioural change, advocacy work, movement,...)? And how meaningful is it to invest more in results that can be demonstrated to increase private fundraising?

Speakers

Fanny Polet

Fanny Polet is the new director of Viva Salud. Previously, she coordinated the joint programme of 3 NGOs: KIYO, Solidagro and Viva Salud. She was mainly responsible for the monitoring and evaluation of the programmes.

In addition, she followed up on the impact evaluation over three years conducted by HIVA (KULeuven). Accountability and ensuring that the funds go correctly to the projects were part of her duties.
