Picaflores.org

Picaflores.org is an NGO that was founded in 2018 with the aim of contributing to a more sustainable and socially just way of living and producing and, on the other hand, to the protection and reconstruction of the fragile ecosystems in our world. The projects that Picaflores.org initiates or facilitates are aimed at self-reliance and not at a sustainable dependence on external funds or subsidies. Picaflor means hummingbird and refers to the important contribution of the tiny hummingbird and its small actions in the larger ecosystem.

Themes include awareness, protection and reconstruction of fragile ecosystems, sustainable waste processing, sustainable social housing/co-housing, sustainable/regenerative agriculture and support for indigenous tribes as protectors of the fragile ecosystems.

One of Picaflores.org's non-profit spearhead projects is Tonkiry Artists-for-the-Rainforest
This project aims to raise awareness for the world's fragile ecosystems through the harmonious way of art, without dogmas. The project organizes exhibitions with a group of 25 artists of the Neo-Amazonian style from the rainforest city of Pucallpa in Peru. In the period 2019-2025, a total of 42 exhibitions have been organized in 6 countries. In addition to raising awareness about the fragile ecosystems, the project contributes to the livelihood of the painters and the margin on sales is used to facilitate other Picaflores.org projects. Tonkiry also means hummingbird in Ashaninka dialect.

In addition to the Tonkiry project, the following projects have previously been carried out or supported:

Assistance in the realization of a sustainable cocoa cooperative in Bella Horizonte near Pucallpa, Peru

Feasibility study for recycling technology of polluted plastics using Pyrolysis.

Support for Nemonte Nenquimo, leader of the Waorani tribe in Ecuador and her organization for the protection of the rainforest and the position of the indigenous peoples

Realization of a drinking water infrastructure for the Nukiní tribe in the rainforest of Brazil (realized)

The construction of a hybrid health center for the Shipibo-Conibo tribe in Peru in which regular and ancestral medicine is combined (realized in 2024)

Supporting the construction of an art school for the Shipibo community around Pucallpa as well as several existing art schools that provide free education to indigenous children.

Alignment with and support for two mayors in Peru in resp. Chota - Cajamarca and Quicco - Paucartambo (altitude 4200m) on sustainable waste processing and awareness raising (ongoing).

In preparation: a co-creation project to support the awareness about, and the protection of the Cerrado in Brazil (to be started with the Belgian embassy in Brasília, ISPN and one of the local grassroots organizations that work with the indigenous people of the Cerrado).

Missie
