Missie
Afrodidact wants to be a project promoting a didactical and pedagogical school model and inspiring other schools anywhere in the world.
Basic principles of this model are:
Equal opportunities to all children, with specific attention to children with speical needs;
Work towards life skills as creative and critical thinking, communication, respect, et;
Prepare for a sustainable society;
Emancipating education;
A safe, healthy and sustainable school environment and food practices;
Effective health services in and for the school;
Effective education on sustainable development for students and staff;
Focus on diversity (against bias);
Joint actions between school and community.
The Swallow (basic school in The Gambia) is the model school, where exepirments are still going on.
Afrodidact has as objectives:
Contributing to the promotion and spreading out of this pedagogical method;
To link and support professionals willing to work according this model;
Collecting and dispatching information on good practices in education;
Continuing optimization of practice and theory.
Historiek
Kukichas starte in 2006, supporting various projects on children and basic needs. The Swallo whas been a supported project since lot of years.
Afrodidact is organized in Belgium in close cooperation with the board and the collaborators of The Swallow in The Gambia. A group of educational experts did deep level research on the methods of The Swallow. About ten experts participated in this journey, coming from various scientific fields: science, pedagogy, didactics and culture. The participants with educational background represent a diversity of approaches (special education, inspectorate, scientific research…) and educational levels (nursery, basic and secondary school, university). In 2016 Kukichas and Afrodidact joined together all forces and are since then working as one team, supporting The Swallow and establishing dissemination programs to promote the pedagogical approach towards others.
In 2017 startte het project KUBO, vanuit een stage van Shane Deconinck vanuit Howest, opleiding toegepaste informatica. We werken aan de ontwikkeling van een digitaal schoolplatform. Ook hier fungeert The Swallow als pilootschool, om van daaruit te kunnen verspreiden.
