The World of Migrants - Belgians also migrate from home to work, from village to city
In the heart of Antwerp, De Wereld van Migranten (The World of Migrants) has been working since 2014 to create a society where diversity, solidarity, and connection are central. As a diaspora association with roots in the Moroccan community, the organization focuses on education and works primarily with children and young people.

The non-profit organization was founded on personal experience and academic research. Chairwoman Najah Amrani studied law in Venice and immersed herself in the topic of migration. Her thesis, on the impact of migration on society and integration in Antwerp, led to the creation of the first association in Italy in 2011. This experience was followed up in Belgium with the founding of De Wereld van Migranten vzw three years later.
Art and education for integration
What began as a modest initiative has grown into a vibrant organization with educational and cultural projects in Antwerp. The organization hosts calligraphy workshops, performances and musical Sundays for children, debates, and social gatherings. "Art speaks everyone's language. Music is a form of education—it touches children in a gentle way."
A special example is the project "Nobody is Stranger at School" (2015), realized in collaboration with the City of Antwerp and Het Vosje primary school. The goal was to make children with a migrant background feel welcome. Through games, music, and food, children and teachers came closer together. "We wanted the school team to know not only a child's report card, but also their story and background."

Collaboration near and far
In addition to its local work, the non-profit organization also builds bridges to the South, specifically Morocco, where it collaborates with partner organization Manar Fes. Through this partnership, they aim to support young people and stimulate local development.
They're not alone in Belgium either: they're part of a network of engaged diaspora initiatives, including the International Committee, Roots vzw, Le Nouvelle Espoir, and VSM Belgium. "We work in a customized way, with volunteers from different backgrounds. This way, we always create a team that fits the project."
Migration is for everyone
Chairwoman Najah Amrani emphasizes that migration isn't just about origins. "Belgians also migrate—from home to work, from village to city. Ultimately, it's about the movement of people, about searching for meaning and connection."
Despite the obstacles volunteer organizations face—such as limited resources and balancing family life with community service—the non-profit organization remains true to its values. "The story of the older generation—about universal values like respect, tolerance, and solidarity—is more relevant today than ever."
