10% of the world's population lives in extreme poverty, and worldwide inequality grows every year. The COVID-19 pandemic has deepened the existing disparities by putting even more pressure on the poorest.
In this session, two speakers present a few underlying causes of global inequality, how COVID-19 has sharpened the system's defaults and a few things we can do about it. In our quest for solutions, we specifically focus on the impact of tax avoidance, the increasing debt of countries of the global South, and the need for tax justice and debt cancellation.
