Conscious and strategic handling of framing

The so-called glasses you wear to look at the world define in a big way which solutions you see and what kind of support you can generate. Framing is all about selecting subjects, words and images that create specific emotions, values and thoughts. The more you know about frames, the more aware you become. In this session, we challenge attendees to use framing more strategically and consciously.

Speakers

Baldwin Van Gorp studied Political and Social Sciences at the University of Antwerp. In 1999, Baldwin's career unexpectedly took a turn when he started writing a dissertation at the University of Antwerp. In this dissertation, he presented his view on the concept of 'framing' and applied it to the media's reporting on asylum seekers and refugees in Belgium. He then moved to Radboud University Nijmegen in the Netherlands, where he taught strategic communication for four years.

In 2009, Van Gorp returned to Belgium. Currently, he works as a professor at the Journalism Master and Communications Master at KU Leuven. Over the years, he became an international expert in framing.
