Wilfried is 85 and has been a volunteer for more than 50 years 11.11.11 in Merksem and Schoten.
He is one of the many volunteers who go out every year to deliver letters of solidarity to raise money for 11.11.11. Just like last year, he is handing out 8.000 letters in the streets around his neighborhood. Sometimes on foot, but more often by bike.
But this year it's getting harder—there are still 4.500 waiting. His team of volunteers is shrinking, but quitting isn't even on his mind. "Why am I doing this? What a stupid question," he says. "If anything is needed, it's that we help each other."
Wilfried believes in a world in which solidarity is just common sense"We all have a lot, after all," he says. He doesn't need a pat on the back for that. "Don't think I'm too big, okay? Plenty of people already know me."
That's why he continues to do what he always did: dedicating his time, his legs, and his heart to helping others. He cycles door to door, because he believes we can all contribute a little to give others a chance. "That's the least we can do, right?" says Wilfried.
