Have you always wanted to know who we are fighting for international solidarity with? In this section we let the people from our partner organisations speak and get to know them better. What is their drive to fight day in, day out? Will you be inspired? We zoom in on Marcos from Bolivia
Who is Marcos?
"I am Marcos Nordgren Ballivian, a graduate in Environmental Sciences and Biology from the University of Gothenburg, Sweden. My work at PBFCC (Plataforma Boliviana Frente al Cambio Climatico) started in February 2020. Among other things, I am responsible for monitoring and participating in the multilateral climate change negotiation process."
What does PBFCC do in Bolivia?
"We mainly engage in advocacy work with Bolivian and international policymakers. This includes drafting national laws (e.g. the National Law for Mother Earth). In our policy work, we frame climate change as a threat to our fundamental rights and as a national security issue related to food, energy and health security. Bolivia remains endemic for malaria, dengue and other infectious diseases that spread under favorable climatic conditions. We aim to raise awareness among policymakers and the general public of the emergency and the need for coherent public policies on climate."
"In addition to policy work, the PBFCC also conducts awareness campaigns on the impact of climate change. This year, we are also organizing several workshops in which we will communicate the content of the last three IPCC reports (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) in a more accessible way with young people, women and indigenous peoples."
What message would you like to give to our volunteers?
“The inspiration to work on climate change is nothing other than the understanding that if we lose the fight against the climate crisis, there will be nothing left. We must put all our will and energy into building a movement that makes climate justice a priority.”
