Vluchtelingenwerk Vlaanderen
There is a need in Flanders for an association that is committed to all people in need of protection as described in the vision and mission below.
Vision
Every person has the right to live in peace, freedom and security.
Every person whose life, integrity or freedom is threatened and who needs protection has the right to protection.
The Geneva Convention on Refugees and its protocol, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the European Convention on Human Rights are seen as an inspiring guideline and legal remedy in this regard.
The European Union and the Belgian authorities have a formal, moral and ethical duty to create conditions and take the necessary initiatives to achieve and provide such protection and to contribute to eliminating the causes of forced migration.
As part of civil society, NGOs also have an active role to play in this by:
- To take and support initiatives that contribute to providing protection, promoting participation and emancipation in the broadest sense of the word and contributing to a future perspective
- To create or increase social support for the right to human dignity
- To be critical and vigilant with regard to government policy and developments in society.
Mission
The tasks of Refugee Work Flanders are:
- Increasing and strengthening social support for the principles of the vision described above.
- Influencing policy.
- Promoting and initiating consultation, coordination and cooperation.
- Providing support to the field.
