Productividad Biosfera Medio Ambiente (Probioma)

For socially responsible agriculture and environmental protection

PROBIOMA (Productividad Biosfera Medio Ambiente) is known for its commitment to socially and ecologically responsible agriculture in eastern Bolivia (Santa Cruz). They combine this with monitoring the social and ecological impact of infrastructure and agro-industrial projects, mainly in the Chiquitanía and the Pantanal.

More and more hectares of forest are being cut down to expand the agricultural frontier for cattle and soy farming, but also for sugar cane plantations. That is why 11.11.11 PROBIOMA in its denunciation of agribusiness abuses, and in its research and policy work at regional and national levels on deforestation of the Bolivian Amazon for cattle ranching, advancing transgenic soy cultivation and sugar cane.

Alternatives for agro-industry

Together with local communities, Probioma works on sustainable forestry and conservation. For example, they were a pioneer in promoting community-based ecotourism as well as for the sovereign and sustainable management of biodiversity resources.

Agroecology and biotechnology

Probioma is also a partner of Bos+, which supports the agro-ecological aspect. Probioma sets up agro-biological vegetable gardens to provide local communities with fresh vegetables and thus ensure greater food security.

Transgenic soybeans produce toxic waste and cause diseases in the surrounding population. That is why Probioma does policy work on responsible or non-genetically modified soybeans and encourages farmers to stop using pesticides, chemical fertilizers and genetically modified seeds.
