Pax Christi Flanders
Pax Christi Flanders promotes peace, reconciliation, security and justice based on humane values and Christian inspiration, in its own society and in other parts of the world.
Pax Christi Flanders believes that every person can work for peace, that every person has the energy to realize something positive in this world. To achieve peace, there is a need for security in all areas; respect for human dignity and fundamental human rights is essential.
The mission of reconciliation is at the heart of the Pax Christi movement. The goal of a peace movement is not to ensure a life without conflict, but to prevent violence and to promote dialogue and cooperation. When people are prepared to forgive, without having to forget, reconciliation can come.
Pax Christi's peace work is based on three interconnected and mutually nourishing pillars:
Spirituality - The message of peace of Jesus and the gospel, translated to our time, challenges us to humanity and connectedness, worldwide. The Christian inspiration of Pax Christi Flanders is at the same time a strong motive to be open and to work together with other movements and citizens in a pluralistic context. The commitment to ecumenism and interreligious dialogue is particularly valuable.
Education - The challenges we face today make attention to education and training for peace more than necessary.
Action - Concrete actions and campaigns are essential. The movement wants to influence political policy by proposing feasible solutions in the short and long term.
