Fighting together for health
Viva Salud is a Belgian NGO that believes that every individual and every community has the right to health. Health is a concern that we all share. It is also a basic right. Unfortunately, this basic right is threatened for most people by poverty, inequality, exploitation and war.
Only when politics and economics serve the people – and not the profits of shareholders – can the right to health be realized. Individuals, communities and countries should be able to take their destiny into their own hands. Sovereignty is a necessary condition for fair and healthy policies that respond to the needs of the population. Strong social movements play a key role because they represent the voices of workers, farmers and the weak and are able to change the balance of power in society to their advantage.
That is why Viva Salud supports social movements in their fight for the right to health. In the Philippines, Palestine, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Cuba and elsewhere, we offer our partners advice and support and help them build stronger organisations. We also support them financially through subsidies and donations that we receive in Belgium. We also support their fight through activities in Belgium and our international network such as the worldwide People's Health Movement.
