Access to drinking water and good hygiene are the basis for good health and development opportunities. Today, 1 in 10 people do not have access to drinking water and 1 in 3 lacks their own toilet.
Global warming, global population growth and increasing consumption are putting fresh and clean water supplies under additional pressure. If we continue to use water as we do today, we risk a water shortage of 2030% by 40. We are all heading towards a global water crisis.
Join For Water is the only NGO in Belgium that focuses entirely on the theme of water. And focus is necessary, because water is becoming a scarce resource worldwide.
Water touches so many essential aspects of life on Earth that cooperation with all parties involved is the only guarantee of sustainable solutions.
Join For Water joins forces. In the South, we work together with (local) governments, population, companies and development organisations. Thanks to this collaboration, tens of thousands of people gain access to drinking water, sanitation and water for agriculture every year.
Everyone has the right to water. Join For Water not only provides the infrastructure, but also ensures that it is managed sustainably and democratically. Furthermore, we ensure that its quality is guaranteed and that future generations will continue to have sufficient clean water.
Through our consumption pattern, our water footprint, we have an impact on the quantities of water. All the products we consume require water to make them, and we often get our products from the South. In Belgium, Join For Water appeals to citizens, local authorities and schoolchildren to take action to reduce their water footprint. Here too, cooperation is essential to achieve results.
Join For Water, together for water!
Join For Water brings together all relevant partners for better access to drinking water, hygiene and water for agriculture in the South, even in difficult contexts.
Join For Water and its partners provide infrastructure, but also ensure that it continues to function, thanks to good management.
Join For Water works on sustainable water and soil management – with climate change as a major challenge – and takes into account the different water users.
Join For Water and its partners work on better water quality and ecological waste management. We inform about the connection between health and hygiene.
Join For Water focuses strongly on knowledge building and sharing in and between partner countries. We keep water and related themes high on the political agenda.
Join For Water aligns its activities with SDG6, the Sustainable Development Goal for water and sanitation.
Join For Water stimulates conscious water use and a smaller water footprint. In this way we limit the impact of our consumption on water supplies in Belgium and the South.
