Biraturaba
For the realization of civil rights
Biraturaba means 'it concerns us' in Kirundi, the official language of Burundi. And it says everything about what this organization, founded in 2002, stands for: promoting the participation of civil society organizations and the population in local and national policymaking.
In Burundi, it is mainly ignorance or indifference that causes the population to be too little involved in determining the country's priorities. Biraturaba has made it his goal to convince the population that political decisions also concern them. They do this by, among other things, promoting consultation between civil society organizations and local governments. It gives the organizations the opportunity to give input to the government on good governance and the priorities of the population.
In addition, Biraturaba supports the population directly by creating solidarity groups or economic interest groups, in which the population helps each other to get out of poverty. They help each other to save and invest in projects that benefit the community. In addition, this cooperation promotes social cohesion and community cohesion.
