The Israeli violence in Lebanon has been going on for more than a month.
More than 1.350 people have been killed and more than 4.000 were injured. Meanwhile, over 1,2 million people on the run, within Lebanon, but also across the border into Syria.
Emergency workers, ambulances and hospitals are being deliberately and systematically attacked. Bombardments destroy entire villages in the south and residential areas in Beirut. Water infrastructure is also being deliberately targeted.
Israel openly admits its strategy: Lebanon will become a second Gaza. With total destruction, forced displacement, and a prolonged occupation in the south.
11.11.11 SUPPORTS LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS
In this crisis, it is primarily local organizations that make the difference. They are the first on the scene, know the communities, and know exactly what is needed.
11.11.11 has been structurally supporting their work for some time. Due to the escalation we also released additional emergency resources, so that our partners can scale up quickly and immediately help people on the run – today and with a view to recovery and a better future.
Basmeh & Zeitooneh provides emergency aid to families on the run
Our partner Basmeh & Zeitooneh has been working for years on protection and solutions for people on the run. During the Israeli invasion in early March, they immediately took action to to support families who have lost everything .
divide their teams food and basic goods, provide temporary shelter and support families with essential items such as mattresses, blankets, and hygiene products.
In addition, they offer psychosocial support to people who have been severely affected by Israeli violence. They also ensure that children and young people can continue learning safely with lesson and relaxation packages.
They do not do this alone: local volunteers and communities are also supported to organize emergency relief themselves. In this way, solidarity continues to grow from the bottom up.
Women Now protects women and girls
Also 11.11.11-partner Women Now for Development took immediate action.
In the eastern Bekaa region, they support displaced families with food, cash aid, and basic necessities such as hygiene and menstruation kitsAt the same time, they offer psychosocial support and create safe spaces for women and girls.
That approach is crucial: women and children are hit hardest by violence and displacement.
SHIFT provides income and connection in difficult times
In northern Lebanon, SHiFT is working on another important challenge: giving people a future perspective again.
Due to the ongoing Israeli violence Many people flee to the northThere, they clash with a region already under heavy pressure due to years of economic crisis. Work is scarce and tensions between communities are increasing.
SHiFT therefore brings internally displaced people and local residents together in joint production initiatives, such as sewing workshops for reusable hygiene kits or small workshops for artisanal products. This way, people can earn an income again.
In addition, they set via theater and their “Shadda media lab” focus on positive stories and dialogue to combat tensions and hate speech.
